If you have followed this blog - or not - you may have learned how last year I started a fitness goal 100 days before the end of the year. Well, a little interruption - diagnosis of breast cancer waylaid my plans a bit.
I'm explained some of that before, but I am ready to get back on the saddle again. I am in round 5 of chemotherapy - my cycle interrupted because of a two week hospitalization for pneumoccoccal pneumonia, near sepsis and chest tube insertion times two. OOOOHHHHHHH howdy.
But I digress. Today I am back with my fitness goals. And like all goals we take on they need constant attention, forgiveness and humor. When I attended Weight Watchers long ago, the woman asked "When do you get back on your diet after you get off of it? " The answer - "The next bite." That is life, like eating an elephant, you take it bite by bite. No matter what end you are looking at.

Ending up yhe year: - moving towards healing in a true sense
As I have mentioned before, my life turned over in a tailspin with a cancer diagnosis in fall. I experienced surgery and had my first chemotherapy session yesterday.
The nurses and doctors were trained well, and it didn't go as badly as I would have thought. Can I obtain fitness with cancer? I went to the club tonight and worked out on the bicycle. I still could not use my pectoral muscles at all, but I exercised enough to get that glow going on.
That little bit of aerobics helped so much.
Every cell in my body is experiencing illuminating health.

Okay, I'm back in the saddle - sort of.
Well, I had a double mastectomy and oopherectomy and salpingectomy - in other words I had surgery to remove both breasts and my fallopian tubes and ovaries - all in the search to get out of cancer. Unfortunately, two of my lymph nodes were malignant. Thus chemotherapy is in my future.
So when I expected to swimming and burning the elliptical, I was working on getting out of bed. How can you get in shape if you are unable to walk a block without hurting too much the next day?
I will tell more about my path in other postings - but I am back.

Sticking with it
Okay, so these are not the 100 days I had planned. I got my computer back from the shop and it is sort of working.
I will do better if I have goals - and a plan.
I am not sticking to all my goals - fighting depression, but committed to win.
I think I'll go walk Buckwheat around the block before I go to work.

Zig Ziglar on goals
I have been reeling from my bad news (cancer,) and having a rough time staying committed. But this video helped me keep on track. ZZ talked about specific steps in obtaining any goals, whether it is getting fit or writing a book. I think everyone could profit from this.

A New Reason for this challenge - I have Breast Cancer again
OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh
Went to the doctor the other day for a mammogram and found out that I had breast cancer - again, in the other breast.
I thought I was past all that.
I haven't told my family.
Now I have to figure out, what medical procedures to go through, and how to nurture my body.
I know that fitness will play a part in this.
My son and friends are sending me info on how alternative treatments work to stop the cancer, and how to develop a holistic plan to get past this.
Any support is appreciated.
In the meanwhile, I would appreciate your visits to the following site - any clicks are free to you, but the advertisers will help poor women afford mammograms.

Starting and ending the day with Wins
Adding exercise is turning out to be the easiest part of this challenge, which is surprising, because I used to be procrastinating it all the time! I started the day with a short walk with Buckwheat and ended with going to the gym with my son, Nick. He took his camera and photographed me for his class, he wanted to see my legs in motion!
The veggie and fruit servings are more dicey, I don't really have a grip on the vegetables. My son wants me to put up a whiteboard with his chores listed; that way he will know for sure if he has done them, and I will not have to nag. I think I will get a board with vegetable and fruit serving magnets to monitor my progress: just move the magnets around once I have a serving. And wouldn't you know somebody else thought of this idea?
